We were heading back East for my Aunt's 80th birthday celebration and decided to add on a few nights prior and visit Boston, also know as, "Beantown". I have sent clients to The Liberty Hotel many times over the years & I knew about its history, so it's been a bucket list hotel for me! It is a Luxury Collection hotel, part of the Marriot family of brands, so I was able to book our nights using points from the Bonvoy program. We arrived late evening, so by the time we retrieved out luggage, found our ride and got to the hotel it was close to 9pm. We walked around a bit and checked things out, had a drink at the bar before it closed and called it a night. The hotel is built in the same space as the old historic Charles Street Jailhouse & they have kept a large part of the jailhouse building in tact. It's actually very cool!
If you choose to view the photo album reference below, you'll see photos of our room, exposed brick, the safe is actually in an old time safe being used as a nightstand. Everything is very well thought out- including the key chain !! The restaurants & bars in the hotel have their theme names- "Alibi" & "Clink". In fact, we had dinner in the Clink restaurant and the waiter shared with us that the brick flooring was the original and outlined the jail cell walls. It was really all very interesting. There were "windows" with jail cell bars and even the wine list had themed wine. This is where we discovered "The Prisoner" wine, it's very good. We had an excellent dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. On Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights they have a live DJ in the lobby and Models on Display- a little different, but it was interesting and lively. We were there for a Wednesday & Thursday night. Picture taken here to the right was taken in "Clink".
As for Boston, we bought tickets for the hop on/off bus around the city so that we could see and do as much as possible. We got a late start once we had breakfast and I did a little needed work in the morning. But it was great to tour the city, we did get off at the famous "Cheers" restaurant to have lunch, because when in Boston- you must go "where everyone knows your name". They didn't know our name, but we had a nice lunch anyway. The actual restaurant looks nothing like the TV show, but upstairs they have re-created the set and there is a bar that looks just like the show, but it's very hard to get a seat at the bar. We tried and finally gave up.
All in all, Boston is a pretty cool city, we want to go back and spend more time because we really did not have enough time to see and do all that we would have wanted to do! It would be great to go back when the Giants play the Red Sox and spend some time at Fenway Park!
